I've got a 92 100 with an aftermarket stereo (factory was Bose) that I 
did not install and it sounds fine. The original owner had a low power 
Pioneer put in when the Bose unit quit but did not replace the speakers. 
He wasn't a big fan of the OEM. With all due respect to Mr. Ford it 
doesn't seem to bother them that a cheap Japanese stereo is sending them 
whatever it is that makes sound from paper. I used to have a Bose system 
and the speakers relied on 4 Ohms vs the conventional 8 so perhaps this 
was the legacy he was addressing. Around here the stereo superstores ie 
Best Buy offer free installation.
