re: Windshield Replacement
Jon asks:
Any BTDT for replacement of a windshield on a 87 4kcsq? Actually
it's a transplant from a parts car (87 4ksq), to the project, so removal is
necessary too. I'll probably have a glass shop do it, but anything I can
do/say to make it easier would be appreciated.
Jon,
I have an "almost" BTDT.
I took my 86 4kq to Safelite for a new windshield a couple weeks ago and
got a nice surprise...the low cost.
The cost of a new windshield and rubber seal, installed, would be a total
of $164.30.
When the guy looked at the car he said the rubber seal is fine and he
recommends re-using it since it's still pliable. Suggesting I have a
better chance of no leaks by keeping the old one in place. So that drops
the cost to $105 for new glass installed.
BUT...there are locking trim strips inserted into the rubber seal which he
said will need to be replaced. He said these strips are brittle and will
break when removed, so cannot be re-used.
This trim is in four pieces and I have it on order from the dealer now.
Don't know the cost yet or the part number, but expect to have it in a week.
My local generic junkyard charges $75 for a used windshield, BTW.
bye,
Dave C.
