Re: 4kq noisy speedo

Paul;

    Pull the core out of your speedo cable and lube it with graphite-based
speedo cable grease. The cores usually pull out from the top - take the
cable off the speedometer, grab the square end that engages the speedo
drive, and pull the core out. I've never done an Audi ( mine have had the
electronic speedos), but I've done VW's & other cars and this procedure has
worked on them all. Inspect the core when you have it out for frayed spots.
If you find any, replace the core.
    When you put the core back in, you usually have to turn it a bit to get
the key to slide into the transmission drive. This usually results in nice,
black, graphite coated fingers :o).
    If this procedure does not solve the problem, the inside of cable
housing is probably worn (due to lack of lubrication) and needs replacing.
