MC/MB/1B Inlet Manifold running change?

I've noticed that the MB and 1B engines I see are fitted with two
different types of inlet manifold. In the earlier ones, it's just
an inlet manifold. In the later ones, there is a kind of catching
tray cast into the upper side where it attaches to the block.

Last weekend was the first chance I had to examine one of these
later ones close up. It is indeed a tray, and there is a drain
with pipe attached at the rear. Of course, the drain was blocked ...

We tested it by undoing #5 injector. Sure enough, leaked fuel is
carried relatively safely past the exhaust and vented under the car.
With _my_ manifold, it would pour onto the exhaust.

I can't find any documentation on this change. Anyone know if the
part number was retained?

I can get pretty close to when it was done. Ur-quattro J637
doesn't have it, and J734 does.
