BTW - did you know that you can stop the cam gear from turning by using
a thin steel rod to engage in the window cut in the backing plate for
viewing the timing mark?

I do. I used this method once, three Audis ago, trying to undo the 19mm
bolt that holds the cam sprocket. Bent the backing plate.

Haynes recommends a long flat screwdriver leveraged against one of the
two front 6mm studs with its blade inserted in the cam sprocket. I tried
and bent the stud on the same poor Audi.

Ever since then I use my self-made Zelinda holder knock-off for the
harmonic balancer (per Bentley). Of course, the timing belt should be on
both sprockets at the moment.
