That's a satisfactory alternative that does accomplish the main objective
if you really are cheap... er I mean, wish to economize.  :-)

I'd also like to point out to the engineer types who wonder about using
threaded rod, that the 5KCSTQ uses M14 threads, which are much larger than
any other comparablbe car on the road.  Its just another illustration of
Audi's tendency to overbuild the drivetrain.  GM full size pickup trucks
use M14 wheel studs!  (actually, that is a possible source - need to check
it out) So even if the psi rating of the threaded rod is a few thousand
less than the Audi bolts (which I doubt) we are still quite safe running
the grade 8 threaded rod as studs.
