The pump sits right near the radiators up front, right
behind the grille and 4 rings.  Rack I would buy (that
was my guess if you recall) but not the pump.
Wonder if it was actually the high pressure hose that burst
and they replaced that, charging you for a pump?

Any leak in the system will cause it to groan, since it will
be low on fluid.

To get that stuff out (remember, it's oil) I would try a citrus
degreaser or maybe Simple Green.
