OK Quattro fans, I need some advice/help:

My 86 4000CS, 170K, has a problem in that the firewall is broken where
clutch master is bolted.  apparently, the plate is stress (?)
"shattered".  Is this a common problem?  Is there a fix?  Thoughts,
ideas?
