Re: Ur-Q Headlights suddenly not working

The headlights on my '83 Ur-Q suddenly stopped working overnight??

The parking lights work. The dash lights work.

The headlights come on if I use the flasher stalk.

   Brake and turn signals work.

   Fuses OK.

   Is it the headlight switch?

As I very vaguely recall, the headlight wiring on those beasts is
tortuous to say the least. I don't remember any relays involved in
the *headlights*, but the wiring path runs through the ignition
switch, the flasher switch, and the headlight switch, with at least
one loop (if not two or three) through various regions of the
fusebox . . . if all four headlights are out, it's "earlier" rather
than later in the wiring path.

Check around the ignition switch would be my first guess. (I very
*very* vaguely recall it being a big yellow wire for the headlight
circuit, but I don't recall where the "flasher" circuit would tap in
to make it work if the ig switch was at fault; maybe its the high/low
aka "flasher" switch at fault.) All the other lights (dash, signal,
etc.) are on a completely different feed, I *think* (it's been a
coupla years since I've been down in those nether regions...).

FYI, you lose a volt or two in these wire loop-the-loops (see
http://www.tiac.net/users/rdh/http/Urq/rr02.txt and following...)
before the headlights -- when everything _is_ working -- even see
those pesky little electrons! Interesting to see what sort of
voltage you can measure across the headlight terminals; I only saw
9.6 volts on mine!

Good Luck!
