It is a little confusing with the international flavor of the list.
The USA '91 200 quattro has the 20v turbo (3B engine); the Canada '91 200
quattro has the 10v turbo, like that used in previous years 200's. The non-
quattro USA and Canada 200 has the 10v turbo. The 20-valve turbo 200 was
available in Europe in 1990, and in some areas it might have been available as
an '89. The 3B engine is virtually identical to that used in the 20-valve
urquattro (RR engine).
The 20-valve turbo used in the new body style cars (S4 and later the S6, with
the grill integrated into the hood) is a slightly different design than the 3B
engine, and first became available in the USA and Canada in 1992 (earlier
overseas). Design changes include a deeper oil pan and modified
baffling/pump system, different intake manifold, different cooling system
(radiator and two cooling fans), revised motronic ECU allowing overboost, and
different intercooler (the S4 engine puts out about 10 more HP and 30 ft-lbs
more torque, although the car weighs a bit more than the 200). The deeper
sump may make fitment of the S4 engine into other platforms more difficult
than the earlier 3B engine, although I've heard that integration of the wiring
harness from the S4 is easier, so it may be a wash.
The S4 engine was also installed into the S2 (new body style coupe quattro),
and a Porshe modified (higher HP/torque) version was used in the RS2 (sedan
and avant based on the 90 platform, not available in the USA or Canada).
Chips, bigger turbos, bigger intercoolers, different exhaust manifolds, etc.
are all available for the 20vt cars; general increase quoted for chips are
about 60 hp, with 300 hp easily within reach through bolt ons.
More details on the '91 200q on my site:

there are several conversions to 20vt being completed or already completed for
both urquattros and the newer coupe quattros, as well, some with web sites.
Look around a bit; a good spot for links to them is Scott Mockry's page at:
