Re: Audi Corrosion Warranty

John,
A friend of mine has a '94 Jetta GLX VR6, which developed a silver dollar
sized rust spot on the rear driver's side door. He had it in for service
last month at Day Audi/VW/Porsche (Pittsburgh, PA area), and the service
manager brought up the rust spot. The service manager asked if he'd like the
door repaired and repainted under the 10 yr corrosion warranty. My friend
was familiar about the rust through stipulation, and get this, the service
manager told him to take a screwdriver and poke a hole through the door so
it was "perforated!" He said they'd even do it for him if he did not feel
comfortable doing it! So he's got an appointment next month to have the work
done. As an aside, the service manager did tell him that if he was not a
regular customer, and did not bring both of his cars (he has an '88 Porsche
928 also) in to their dealer for all service, he wouldn't have even brought
it up. He said that he turns down just about every rust claim from customers
that bring in cars that aren't regular customers (and spend big $$$ on
dealer repairs!).
