I read something today where Ford are doing much the same sort of thing. All
parts lists on microfiche are being replaced by CD-ROM which just happen to
omit models older than about 10 years. A number of manufacturers have been
actively lobbying governments and the EC for some time to introduce
mandatory scrapping of old vehicles, often trying to camouflage them behind
the 'old vehicles are high polluters' argument. This has also prompted
proposals to 'reform' UK excise duty to the effect that 'large' engined
(>1.4L) cars should pay higher taxes. See
