Two-piece manifold for N/A 5-cyl. motors...
I just got finished replacing a leaky exhaust gasket on my father's '91 100
and was surprised to find the OEM manifold is a two-piece design similar to
that Audi introduced for the turbo cars. I don't know if it flows better than
the other designs Audi used but I do know that even after 110k, each of the
pieces was flat to within .006" and all of the EM studs were still intact.
(Which, of course, means I'm somewhat puzzled as to why one of the gaskets
started leaking in the first place...)
Anyway, if you've got a cracked or warped EM on your N/A car, you might want
to check this out if you're going to buy a new one regardless.
