Re: 92 100 commmom problems

Common problems, you say? You've come to the right place.

Here are some of the "common" problems of the 92 100 V6: head gasket,
valley pan gasket, water pump, and the auto transmission. I'm sure I'm
forgetting something.

The head gasket was redesigned and phased in during the late '93 build. The
valley pan gasket, well I'm just not sure if it was ever redesigned, but I
suspect it was since it doesn't seem to be a problem with the later builds.
The water pump was redesigned as well, something about it having a hissy
fit whenever fluids were introduced ;->. The auto transmission seems to
have been a bit weak early on, though, don't try to convince one Mr. Andrew
Duane who apparently has a fussy tranny and is currently have discussions
with AoA.

If I think of anything else, or if my car introduces me to anything else,
I'll let you know.

Oh, btw, I spent ~$1600 to replace: head gasket, valley pan gasket, water
pump, timing belt, serpentine belt, 1 roller, 1 tensioner, and synth-oil
just a couple o'months ago.

Subject: 92 100 commmom problems

I know all the commom problems with the pre 1992 audis. Last year, I
purchased a 94 100cs quattro and am looking at a 92 100 base model to
replace my daughter's 86 5000. Someone indicated that oil leakage was a
problem from the head or valvecover gasket. I would appreciate any input
on what were common problems, major and minor, and normal repair cost.
The car has 88k miles so I expect he normal expenses such as struts,
rotars, timing belt, but are some other things that also go on the the 92
and later models about this time? George K jkot@pitt.edu
