In my experience, frozen door locks are a fairly common problem with
Audi/VW products (we have owned six over the years), but rarely a problem
with the other cars we have owned (dozens of various makes) unless left out
in an ice storm or something.

One thing that has helped is to tape over the key slots with duct (duck?)
tape before washing the car in cold weather or when freezing weather is
expected.  I don't know if it would work in an automatic car wash (I don't
use them), but it works well with the hose/bucket/sponge/driveway car wash.
