urq antenna problems

speaking of antennae... i just finished the install of
the audio system in my urq. i noted that my head unit
will not power up inless the antenna is connected, i
guess this is a ground thing. anyway, the antenna
is either totally crappy (picks up maybe 2 stations)
when hooked up or it's not actually hooked up. more
investigation is necessary. i have sort of a stubby,
	flexible antenna. my questions:

if i need to replace it, what looks good on an urq,
is not too pricey, and gets good reception?

is my antenna the stock one? see it at
	http://caliban.sf.ca.us/ur-q/MVC-018S.JPG and
it's hardly a good shot of it at all. it's black,
and it hinges from straight up to about 45 degrees
to the rear. i think it sort of has an embedded black
wire spiraling around it, i'd have to check though.

i don't really like it anyway. it looks pretty cool,
it's short and it's usually pointed toward the rear,
but it's right at chest/eye level when it's pointed
back and i have been poked a few times.
