5k, starter does nothing; where was that splice?

My 5kcstq isn't responding when the key is turned to start. The "on"
position works properly, but nothing happens--no starter solenoid
click--at "start." Sometimes the dash goes dark when put to "start,"
too, though mostly it stays on like it should. 

It started fine one minute, and then did this a few minutes later. (Glad
this happened at home!) The phrase "footwell splice" jumped into my head
immediately, from a recent thread. Where exactly is this splice, or
where else should I check? I inspected the starter and alternator
connections, and they look okay.
