Well, in the _real_ _thing_ (the Philips 994 designed for the
ur-quattro) there's a second volume control. You pull the radio out of
the dash, but leave it connected. Switch it on, and short out the
casing to a copper strip just inside the top cover. This switches on
the ARI circuit. Just behind this hole in the top cover, there's a
second one giving access to a small screwdriver-driven potentiometer.
This is how you set the ARI volume. You can then drive around with the
radio switched on but turned right down, and frighten seven shades of
sh*t out of any foreigners you might offer lifts to.
