Help: 89 Audi Sauna

Hello,
My brother owns a 89 200 turbo. He was driving the car tonight,
and something happened that made the interior immediately steam up and
the low coolant warning activate. He checked for the obvious leaks but
found nothing to the naked eye. I would assume that it could be a blown
heater core, but the carpet wasn't wet. Anyone have any btdt's? If it
is the heater core, is this something that can be done at home?

I would imagine it must have looked rather humorous with steam
billowing out the sunroof and windows. He had to immediately stop and
open the car up when it happened. Anyway, all advice will be put to
good use.
Thanks,

Tim Sexton
