You could have taken a winter driving course 2 weeks ago.
I went to Eastern Washington for Christmas. We sat on the otherside of
Snoqualimie pass in a snow blizzard for 2 hours while the avalanche
patrol was clearing all possible avalanches in front of us. The pass
was closed shortly after we made it over. While I was sitting there in
my 89 200TQ with heater and radio on I had to keep the idle up around
1500 because the Volt meter would drop down below 12. I just replaced
the main wiring harness 2 weeks earlier and had only driven it 5 miles
since. This was my first trip and I was just waiting for the car to die
or blow a cooling hose. By the way in 2 hours of waiting it snowed 4
inches. Finally made to Yakima which is in central WA. in 5 Hrs which
should have taken 2 1/2 hrs and the 200TQ performed admirebly. Biggest
snow storm I've been in in the last 25 years.

PS:

I got my wiring harness from Audi Volkswagon Specialist in Centralia for
$150. Price was good but took 2 1\2 weeks to get.
