I'll agree with Orin that hydrolocking is a major cause of starter ring
damage.

I might also suggest that the Motronic ECU fitted to the V8Q is pretty
good at spotting defective injectors - the search process might not
be as long as you expect.

There is a separate V8 mailing list.  Perhaps one of its members could
tell you how to dump the codes from the Motronic.  It's really the
next thing you should do.
