S4 Central Locking Questions/Problems

Hi Listers, 

I have a question on the central locking system for my 1994 S4.  It seems
strange, I've looked through the Bentley and preformed many of the
troubleshooting ideas they run through without having the VAG tools they
mention.  My infra-red does not work, nor does my central locking, yet the
dimmer light dims, and the alarm system arms correctly.  I have checked at
the vacuum pump, there is no power coming to the pump.  This is unusual
since it seems everything else works.  There is also a manual door lock
switch on the driver door that does not function (I wouldn't expect it to,
the pump gets no power)  I cant figure out what to look at next, its not a
fuse or relay or circuit breaker, as the alarm arms and the dimmer light
works.  Has anyone else out there had any experience on this topic?
