Rear Fog/Front Fog argument
OK,
I agree that running with REar fogs on ALL the time is annoying,
unless weather is bad and the visibility is needed.
BUT,
Crimany people. Keep in mind that there is a differance between front
fogs and driving lights. Fogs (if properly aimed) WILL NOT blind people.
Driving lights will. Driving lights are like Aux brights but frequently
brighter unless you have H4/H1 Euro lights. FOG lights are designed to
have a sharp cutoff patern like Euro Low beams but all the way accross
withoug the 30 deg up-turn on the right. And they cut off lower than Euro
Low beams when aimed properly. This means people you are following and
coming at you WILL NOT be blined by them and shouldn't be annoyed by them.
The lights will be focused on their tail pipes and thats all.
I run with my fogs on almost all the time just to see where the hell
I'm going. WIth cruddy DOT lights it is more of a safety hazzard with
them off. With them on I can see potholes better, people can see me
better, I can see critters on side of road, I can see the little white
line, I can see the dotted yellow line. I can see where I am pointing the
car going around corners. IF you have Euro lights then (which I do on one
car) then they make very little difference except WAy out next to the car
and only really make sense on dirt roads or VERY curvy back roads or in
bad weather. BUT, even with Euro's they can incrase visibility more than
just headlights which can make a 2-lane highway safer by helping the idiot
coming your way in your lane passing the 18-wheeler can actually SEE you.
So next time you see a Red 4kq with 4-pot Euros screaming along a country
2-lane with fogs and lows on you will know why. Heck, even in the city I
like mine on to help see objects by the curb like dead people or cows or
missing sewer drain covers.
If you disagree, I urge you to bring your DOT equiped (or Euro
car) up to NOrtch Idaho and I will take you for a drive. Then we'll see
how you feel. When surrounded by 3-trailer 18-wheelers and trucks with 6"
lifts (lets not go there :-) and Elk that weight 1/2 as much as my car
standing in the woods and cruddy highways with dropoffs on the side I will
take all the light I can get thankyou. Provided it is AIMED Properly.
So, that said, I think my gripe, and many peoples gripe isn't with
fogs necessarilly, but with mis aimed or incorrect lights in general.
Only a month ago a lister said they had DRIVING lights wired into their
the parking light circuit to be on all the time. That is BAD. Fogs if
aimed aren't. DIsagree with me if you like but I urge you to come visit
for a week this winter. :-)
