There's a totally different attitude towards the Jetta in the US vs.
Europe. Here, it's the Golf's poor relation. Specific Dutch attitude: if
you drive a Golf, you're with it. If you drive a Jetta, you don't know the
first thing about style or you have no money (Jettas are very cheap as a
result). Weird, huh? As a result, the Golf outsells the Jetta by something
like 1000:1 (my estimate). VW tried to resolve this by calling it Vento for
the third version- didn't work. Now they're calling it Bora- I'd be
interested to see what this does. It's a fine car to drive anyway, but hey-
my first car was a 1980 Jetta, so what do I know?
