If it's not ice buildup, check the tires for something stuck to them.  I
was going crazy trying to find the odd, speed-sensitive tapping noise on
my A4 last week.  I finally crawled under and found some string stuck to a
piece of chewing gum on my right-front tire.  Felt pretty silly,
especially as I was thinking worse case scenerio.
