intermittent wiper relay

I did not see my previous posting, so here it is again in a nutshell.  I
went to my local VAG dealer armed with list info for the programmable
relay.  I was told that "C" was the only "good" number.  Went home with KAE
relay, which has "programm. interval" printed on the side of it.  Installed
in teh S6, it does not let me program the interval, and takes the wipe out
of the wash/wipe function.  Same thing when installed in the 96 Jetta GLX. 
What's the deal?  Wrong relay? Bad relay?  Any help appreciated.  Sorry to
revive this thread.
