Since I am also on the 911 list (when I have time to read it)  I think that
was a comment about Porsche's suit.  I don't know if you are aware or not,
but Porsche is getting VERY aggressive at defending it's name and even the
visual image of its cars.  For the other question, yes AFAIK porschelist.org
was able to settle the issue with Porsche and still use the name.  Of
course, there are disclaimers all over the web site, ect.
