radiator swaps...

What exactly does exchanging the radiator/overflow reservoir in
a 5k ('84 5kS, in this case) entail? I'm trying to gauge whether
to do it myself, or have a mechanic do it (trying to avoid that,
particularly as the used rad + reservoir is only $35 thanks to
Mr. Cobram).
Does it make a difference that the current radiator had a
fix done to the large upper hose connection, with what looks
like lots of epoxy?
Hose clamps: is there any reason to use the springy thick-wire
press-together-to-open type rather than the type that is tightened
by a worm gear pulling one end in?
BTW, in what conditions should the reservoir cap release
extra pressure? My tiny leak spews out coolant up to one
foot forward (out through the grille, very interesting),
when the temp. is at the fan switch-on point, but the cap
never seems to release anything.
