You'd be faced with A LOT of custom fabrication to make that work.
That's like building a new car, not just doing an engine swap...
Definitely not for the faint of heart. Neither the 944 nor the 924
engines were never used in a Audi type 81/85 chassis so there are no
factory pieces to use from a parts car... all the various brackets,
mounts, supports, linkages, hoses, lines, etc need to be custom made...
and that's assuming that the engine will even fit without interference
with various componentry or bodywork (if so those will need reworking).
This is just to start, and you'll get into making a custom adapter for
the engine to transmission bellhousing, custom wiring, etc. How much
time and money do you want to spend? This would make a turbo I5 swap
seem like a piece of cake by comparison.
