Re: Sunroof '87 5k
Dear Britt
Sounds to me like one or both of the sunroof brackets are broken. These
are famous for breaking once a sunroof gets older and the motor has a hard
time opening them. The brackets finally let go and tell us it is high time
to rebuild the thing. If you can tilt the sunroof open either with motor
or manually, look on each side to see the brackets that have the tilting
mechanism attached. Look closely and I am sure you will find a stessed and
broken bracket or two. If you have Bentley, and the time, then you can do
it yourself. I did mine once. It took a non-mech guy lik me a couple of
days, but it saved a lot labour costs. The tricky part is timing the roof
once the new brackets are in with the new cables. Be sure to lubricate the
cables prior to installing with Pentosin.
