Guardrail 1 - urQ 0
All,
The world has one less urQ after I totalled mine against a concrete
guardrail this afternoon (some days you should just stay in bed). I'm
fine; the car did a great job of keeping me in one piece. I told the cop I
figured I was a good ad for seatbelts. I now have a few questions, such as
whether to buy the car back and fix it, or move on. I'll describe the
damage, and I'd appreciate any comments or similar experiences. It WAS in
really nice shape, by the way, both cosmetically and mechanically. It was
my daily driver and well past it's electrical sorting out.
I ended up head-on into a concrete guardrail after trying to recover from a
spin. (I did thank the very nice young woman who cut me off; she was
honest enough to stop, wait for the police and corroborate my story. It's
now officially her fault. This is also a lot better than if I'd moved a
bit slower and hit her daughter in the backseat.) The front bumper is
gone, the sheet metal was smashed back to the crank pulley. The driver's
door seems to shut fine, though there may be a slight sag compared to
before. The suspension seems untouched, brakes and clutch work. The
interior seems OK except the console is a bit shaken up and the radio
popped apart. Now to the questions.
If I salvage it, what are the chances of hidden driveline damage being
noticed a few months down the road?
What is the resale value of a salvaged car?
What are the best places to look for another urQ, preferably an '84 or '85,
or well sorted '83?
Thanks all.
