Steve,
I am behind you 100% with the "KN" thing, (the rest too)!

... say what!? Methinks you need to sit around the qlist a bit longer ...
while there may be value in spark plugs and new wires, I would invert this
recommendation ... forget the K&N and get your ECU chipped! If you're
willing to do the work yourself you can get the code to raise your max boost
level and reprogram the WGFV for next to nothing! There may still be folks
on the list that will do the mod for you for a pretty reasonable fee ...
probably around $100. With no other changes than the ECU code you will
notice a complete transformation of your "$#!@-box" ... and if you want to
pull six nuts off the wastegate you can install a stiffer spring to allow
the boost to come on more quickly. I heartily recommend that all type 44
owners (and other Audi fans too!) bookmark the following site:
http://www.teleport.com/~scottmo/ ... Scott has put a lot of time into
analyzing problems with the car and creating nice mods, before you put that
new chip in there make sure you follow his instructions for making sure that
your car is in proper form for the added boost.

... sorry, I don't see a K&N in my future on any of my Audis ...
