Doyt & Orin,
Thanks to both of you.  I found it to be pretty much as you describe.  I
reshaped the broken end of the spring and started at the top end, at the
servo.  I removed the damper door, hooked the free end of the spring on and
pulled the flap in place.  Worked like a charm.
