Bose speakers / fix for blown amp
Hi,
First I'd like to thank all the help that I've received regarding the stereo
system and dismantling of the door panel on my 100CS. I came up with a fix
for a blown amp on my door speakers. I'm not sure if anyone has done this
before, but if anyone is interested here it is.
I needed to replace the amp on one of my front speakers, and I was not
willing to pay what Audi wants for a replacement part. So I removed the
door panel to see if I could find anything wrong with the amp. After some
trials and tribulations and lots of help from member of this list I finally
got the damn thing out. I was underwelmed the amp my speaker was smaller
cheaper looking than the one on my walkm*n. Instead of trying to fix it I
decided that it could be replaced. I looked around for a small amp that
would fit in the space provided. Radio Shack Sells a cheap ($15.00 USD) two
channel 40W (or so they claim) amp. Radio Shack doesn't say that this amp
can be bridged, but I bridged it and it worked. I made some connectors and
plugged the amp that the wiring that was already there (had to also make a
ground connection) and the whole thing works pretty well.
The Sound quality is comparable to the original, but it lacks a bit on the
high end. The reason for this is that Bose makes up for that lack of top
end on those drivers by boosting the high end on the amp. The problem with
that boosting is that all kinds of noise and unnatural sounds are produced.
I am planning on adding a tweeter for increased sound quality.
Overall I am very happy with the results.
If anyone wants any additional info please email me.
Once again thanks for all the help,
Rui.
