extended warrenty on 97A6

Hello Folks,

    I am interested in purchasing a used 97 Audi A6 Quattro with 15500
mi on it and the dealer is offering a extended bumper to bumper warranty
for 48 months from time of purchase for $2250 usd. From what I
understand the manufactures warranty is good for three years 50k mi.
which basically leaves me with 1- 1.5 years warranty. The dealer said
that I have to purchase this warranty when I purchase the car otherwise
they can't offer it to me later.

Is this true?
Is this something that I should consider?
Is there another way of purchasing extended warranty as I approach the
end of the manufactures warranty?
Is there another Insurance agency that will give me an extended
warranty?
Is the 97 A6 Quattro reliable?
