volvo and ford

with the news that ford will purchase the volvo car division, to leave volvo
to do what it does best - trucks and busses, i still can't help feeling
somewhat depressed at the future for the small manufacturers.  with saab
long gone to gm, volvo, jaguar, aston martin to ford, bugatti, lamborghini,
skoda, seat and bently to vw, chrysler to daimler-benz and rolls royce to
bmw - that doesn't leave a lot left.  only the french.  what of renault and
psa (pugeot and citroen)?  to unite, or be bought out?

what of bmw?  piech's comments about acquiring a stake before christmas  may
also be indicative of the future...
