RE: Too cold for Hard Drives
Most hard drives (even laptop ones) have a rated operating temperature of
5C. This is pretty good, but not enough for those of us with _real_
weather (no slamming intended for lucky Left Coasters and others). eg.
it's 30F right now. That might be no music time for me.
Plus, being in a car, the components are exposed to much harsher
conditions. Vibration, moisture, etc... I'm sure they know about this,
since I've heard of people considering thermal jackets and stuff like that
to keep things warm/cool.
Of course, one could create a very simple system that would boot off of a
ZIP or Clik! disk, and otherwise have no mechanical components. Then, you
could just haul the drive/media in from the house and into your car.
Hopefully, thermal shock doesn't set in before you get the Q warmed up!
Okay - this is probably getting too off topic. Email me if you want to
hear more of my thoughts. I've actually given it some.. :)
