Re: Idle problems - 1989 80 Quattro
Vacuum leaks.
Check the hoses that connect the ISV to the throttle body. They run
underneath and catch a lot of heat and split easily. The short elbow piece
is part# 054 133 997 and costs $12, the straight long one is part # 054 133
999A and costs $21. I might have an extra of each so if you do need them,
let me know.
You will also want to take your ISV off and spray it with carb cleaner to
clean out the accumulated oil-blow by residue that's in there. COnnect a
9V battery to the leads and see if it "snaps" back and forth when making
contact. You might also want to pop off the waffle boot and clean the
throttle plate, waffle insides and throttle butterflys. I bet they're
grimy. Airfilter cleaning/replacement is a given as well.
