RE: Advice needed on type 44 steering rack
It turns out that in the space of a couple of days, two listers, myself one
of them, have encountered defective new high pressure steering hoses, where
the leakage occurs in the area of the rack. As my earlier posting details,
there was no leakage in the atea of the bellows, so I figured it must be a
bad valve housing seal. THen I saw the other lister's posting (Justin?)
stating that he'd bought a rebuilt rack and pulled the old one, only to
discover that the high pressure hose he'd just replaced was defective. When
I pulled back the rubberized covering on mine, I found the hose covered in
pentosin. Given how difficult it is to get that banjo bolt off, I'm not
amused. Not to mention the price they charge for those hoses. This one has
been on the car exactly 30 days.
The good news is that, once again, the list has proved invaluable, and saved
me further grief.
SO I don't need a steering rack---yet.
