Isn't _slight_ "CV" clunk on 4000Q normal?

Isn't a slight clink/clunk on 4000Q normal? The boots are fine. Runs 
straight, with no shudder or uneven tire wear. 

A friend has a slight clunk from the wheels when starting from a dead 
stop, notably when cranked hard left or right. 

Mine always did this, as did another friend's 85 4000Q (and I think his 
90 90Q does as well). I seem to remember it was more noticeable in 
reverse. 

I thought I read on a post that this was common and was the noise of 
"bearing pop into place on the CV", or some such? 

Should he lube the CV?
