A4 Advice Wanted
Hey Gang!
I'm back from 2 weeks of business trips... so while I was gone I wimped out and
had the local repair shop R&R my broken UrQ axle. The CV joint was damaged,
but had wedged itself back together giving me temporary drive. NAPA supplied
rebuilt axles (after 5 tries) for $148 each. I replaced both axles (the left
one also showed some signs of wear upon inspection). Entire repair was under
$400.
Now my question: partially thanks to my UrQ, a coworker is very interested in a
'99 A4 1.8TQ. He drove the BMW 323i and was not the least bit impressed.
Ditto with the Chrysler 300M (a car which I happen to like). Right now, it's
between the A4 (at $29k sticker... 5sp, sport package, moonroof, etc.) and a
very nicely loaded MB C230 Kompressor (at $32k ...which I think sounds pretty
good). The 230 is only available with a slushbox, but has almost 200hp and
traction control.
Two questions:
1. What is the currently preferred chip for the A4...(best all-around
performer... not just peak hp) and it's cost? Any bad habits?
2. What are you seeing around the country as actual A4Q selling prices?
Though we're in WI, I would assume he could get a much better deal on a Q in a
warmer climate, like FL.
Thanks for any advice... maybe we can win another one from MB.
