I had a similar problem with my 89 200tq. The car would wonder and
there was alot of play in the steering. A new rack was installed in
1997
by Audi of Van Nuys. When I replaced my main wiring harness last fall I
discovered the problem. The two bolts that secure the rack to the left
side of engine compartment were only halfway in. I don't think the
dealer even tightened these bolts down after installing the new rack.
While your checking the rack out you might want to check these bolts
out.
