84' 4kq Crash Course
Great CAr,
84' has the older style dash which isn't real attractive but you
can upgrade this to the newer style if you feel adventurous. (I did this
on mine) Looks great having the 85+ Style Black dash. I'm sure you know
the difference from your two Coupes.
Second, the 84' has stiffer springs than the 85-87 cars so with
Boge TG or better shocks it will handle better. These springs are about
as stiff as an aftermarket H&R spring but keep stock ride height.
Third, Car looks different. 84' looks more like a race car I
think, 85-87 looks more civilized. I like them both.
Fourth, 84' has 4 pot lights that are cheap to upgrade to Euro
Lights with H4/H1's and they rule. I have them on mine. They rock.
As for the AWD operation. Pull the little knob out. Position one
locks the center differential basically making it like a 4x4 truck in Four
wheel drive. This is more stable in slick conditions like snow and ice
andis supposedly faster around the Auto-X course. I run with it locked
around AUto-X as well and frequently on dirt/snow/etc. - Second
positions (all the way pulled out, both lights lit up) locks rear diff.
This is only to be used to get un-stuck or get up an Icy Hill with a foot
of snow on it that cant be negotiated otherwise. (Or for pulling big
trucks out of snowbanks because they are to stupid to put on decent tires
and drive properly in their tail happy, light rear ended, big motored, big
tired, gas guzzling, dangerous behemouths :-)
Hope that Helps. I have one of each and the 84' is louder,
quicker (lighter and stiffer springs) (different gearing supposedly to),
and faster looking. The 85 & 87' are quieter, softer, and more enjoyable
on the highway but arent as fun. The 84' is the most fun to hustle.
