I don't think Audi were hell-bent on saving pennies when they built the
MB and RR ur-quattros, and they have no sway bays.  Considering they
went from forged to $$$$ cast on the 20V, I think they'd have added a
sway bar for a lot less $$$ if they'd thought it worthwhile.

They took it off for a reason.  The later (post-1987) ur-quattros
outhandle the earlier ones by a comfortable margin.
