RE: Stabilant well goes dry...
It's called gettin' greedy! But, hey, it was worth a shot. Just be
thankful you didn't try to double-up the first time you bought - they might
have double checked the price on the spot... That'll be $434.38 please...

Subject: Stabilant well goes dry...
I tried to get more Stabilant 22A at the good deal price that I mentioned
earlier to the list. So on the way back from lunch I stopped back by Wester
VW here in Monterey and casually inquired if they had any and what price.
Kid at the counter says he shows a quantity of 37 and they're $5.87 each. I
said fine... I'll take 20 and he goes to fetch. I'm wondering now what I'll
do with all this spare time now that I'll be able to retire after a slight
markup and passing these on to the qlist... but meanwhile... the parts
manager shows up and he and the kid have a conference and approach me.
Sorry, but this pricing is _per drop_. (...and I begin to hear the sound of
me tearing up my retirement papers.) They don't usually sell it over the
counter, I'm told, and the price they have is what they charge the service
department for each application! So... it's $5.87 per drop and there are
37 drops in each bottle and I can see that my one time good deal was even
better than I thought. And now that 15mL bottle is up to $217.19 and I'm
beginning to back toward the door wondering if the parts manager is going to
recognize me as the one he sold it to for $5.87 a couple weeks ago. Then
the parts manager, numerous tattoos and built like a fireplug, turns around
to show me the bandage on his butt where his boss chewed him good for giving
some guy a really, really good deal on this stuff a couple of weeks ago...
and I'm looking at my watch and saying how late it is and that it's been
real and I'm edging toward the door. And finally there is no mayhem and I
make a clean getaway but I'm gonna have to ask that you good folks out there
in qlist land not mention my name to the parts guys at the VW place here.
We OK on this? OK? I tried... I really did...
