A breeze compared with the MB ur-quattro. In theory you have to remove
the right upper grill clip and swing out the upper headlight trim, undo
the two screws securing the lower headlight trim, unscrew the left two
and right lower headlight mounting screws, take out the upper mounting
bolt, rotate and extract the headlight (taking care not to scratch the
upper bumper surface) and pull off the headlight connectors. Most of
the air filter housing clips can be reached with a large screwdriver,
although the back two are more accessible to a coat-hanger hook.
On some cars, you have to detach the two cable clips holding the harness
to the side of the air mass sensor. It remains a considerable struggle
to lift the air mass sensor enough to get the air filter out.
Personally, I don't bother with the above crap. I just take out the
fuel injection system. Undo the feed and return lines, unplug three
connectors, and the whole thing can be jiggled out with the injectors
still attached. I think it's best to remove the cold start injector
line clamping bolt.
