Re: WHAT AUDI SHOULD I GET...

I would recommend in this order:

-1991 200 20 valve Quattro
-S4/S6
-5kCSTQ(no earlier than 88)

The 200 basically looks exactly like your 100 only with the turbo
headlight style and there are no badges on the rear deck except for
the rings.

The 200 is the best "platform" to work off of in my opinion; some
will say the 5kCSTQ is, but I disagree since you have to do quite a
bit of work to get even the stock power and response you do from a
200q20v; the interior is also much nicer, better instrumentation,
etc, and is many years younger. The 5kCSTQ was a great car, but it's
getting a little on the old side, and stock, is woefully
underpowered(though it has more power than an a4 1.8t, so go figure :)

The S4/S6 have better headlights, slightly more power(not much, and
they weigh more), stiffer chassis, arguably better reliability, and
the different bodystyle if you like the newer body(I don't care for
it, but whatever floats yer boat.) However, for a car with such
similar performance, features, etc, there is a significant price
difference; 2-3 years ago a S6 or S4 was going for at least 2k0, more
like 25k.

I had a fair amount of difficulty 2-3 years ago trying to find a
5kCSTQ in anything resembling good shape; it was damn near
impossible, and there was always some major problem with the car.

200q20v's are rarer by far, but generally in much, much better shape.
In the NE, expect to pay anywhere between 9k and 14-15k for a 200q20v
with around 110k on the clock. If the owner is asking 15k for the
car, it had better be PERFECT; if the owner is asking 9k, watch out,
there's probably something wrong, or the owner is an idiot :)
