Well, NEd would obviously be the best person to clear stuff up but I
will try since I have seen and touched the vehicle in question. FIrst a
few personal notes. You are obviously correct about it not being a
5000. ANd the "BEAST" referred to in the article is not the Yellow Car
but the 5000tq that Ned uses as his test bed since he bought it new.
THe Yellow 90 is a new car by comparison and has yet to be completed.
The "beast-5ktq" origianlly had the stock motor when Ned bought it new
as one of the first 5ktq's to the states. He soon modified it and thus
started Intended Acceleration??? About 4 years ago my Best Friends
(Adam Dieckerhoff and Erik Manz) got to ride in it first. I believe it
still had the 10v turbo in it then but was putting out around 350hp.
When I finally got to ride in it for the first time about a year ago it
had the 20vt in it with RS-2 and 3.0 bar. Around 400hp give or take.
Stock engine internals and I believe stock 200q clutch meant taking it
easy with the accelerator. He did floor it in 1'st once though and my
hat hit the rear window. At 90 that car pulls as strong as my 4kq in
2nd.
Anyhow, that was the test motor and between the "beast" and Alex
Nekus's and maybe others cars he has been continually revising the chip
for the 20v motor. I believe he is actually getting as much power from
his current 2.5 bar as he did from the original 3.0 bar due to fuel
issues, etc but I'm not sure.
(Remember, I'm just trying my best here, I could be vastly wrong
on some issues but belive myself to be at least about 80% correct)
Hopefully Ned will read it and correct any mistakes.)
Anyhow, Now comes the Yellow Bird, Oh Wait, THats Porsche. Hmm, do
I forsee a future Duel between Ned in the 90 and Steve Bedor in a
Ruf????? I want to be there if that ever happens.
Now, I believe the 90 does use an AAN motor but notice the modified
Intake.....It dumps/picks up at the front of the motor for less turbo
lag from less piping from Intercooler. Now I believe the 90q is still
in the same or similar state as when I saw it about one year ago after a
Rally I was in. Wild West I think. Anyhow, I know the Turbo (Moded
IMSA Unit) is on. This thing is HUGE! Cold side air Intake is about
the size of a k24 :-) I could fit my fist in there if I wanted. Simply
massive. Exhaust Outlet is similarily massive. I think he is using Big
Reds all the way around but they weren't in place when I saw it. I
THINK it may also be using a Coil Over suspension which makes sense
because the article said it has a Group A supension and most Group A
S2's I have seen have a coil over setup.
So, as far as I know the car is not currently running which is
probably why there were no driving impressions in the article but I
suppose the writer went for a ride in the "beast" for an idea of how
much power if would have. I believe the car is using a Euro 6-speed
tranny and I HOPE will be done soon.
COME ON NED, I HURRY UP, I WANT TO GO FOR A RIDE.
Well, I dont know if this writeup helps any but this is as far as my
knowledge goes. L8R
