In the case of my 5KS, they were compelled by compassion......
I informed the woman from the insurance company on the 
phone that I wanted to resolve this as quickly as possible,
because my wife's neck seemed to be getting stiff after the
accident, and I wasn't sure whether it was the accident
that was causing this, or the stress of trying to 
collect the damages.  A FedEx'd check was sitting in 
my hallway before the morning paper the next day.
