On my 1990 200, I replaced the inner 5 watt bulbs with 20 watt yellow
bulbs, and relayed the lead off the ignition. The lens on this lamp works
fine as a city light, but has a lousy pattern to actually put any light on
the road.

Works fine this way. A white 20 watt bulb looks too much like a high beam,
and I got flashed a lot when the headlamps were on...not that anyone could
tell :(
